Marvin Eugene Carroll, 87 of Sharpsburg, Kentucky passed away peacefully Friday afternoon May 28, 2021 at the home of his daughter in Sharpsburg. He was born May 31, 1933 at Grahn, Kentucky to the late Dennis and Ida Middleton Carroll.
Marvin was a United States Air Force veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Berea College with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and was a member of the Flemingsburg Christian Church where he served as a deacon. He came to Flemingsburg and worked as manager of the Southern States store and later was employed by the Peoples Bank where worked as the Executive Vice President. In his early years, he taught school in a one room schoolhouse.
Marvin was well known throughout the area as a fiddle player. He performed at numerous events though the years the most notable were performing before the Emperor of Japan, the Governor of Kentucky and at the Ryman Auditorium with Homer Ledford in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was a founder and past president of the Fleming County Country Club, a former member of the Kiwanis Club and the American Legion. Marvin enjoyed golf, fishing, cooking and playing music with his friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Belle Leach Carroll and his first wife Anna Jean Carroll. Also, two brothers and two sisters; John Carroll, Larry Carroll, Essie Mullins and Louise Stevens.
Survivors include two daughters; Angela (Bobby) Leach of Sharpsburg, Kentucky and Michelle (Paul) Dickison of Fleming Island, Florida Two brothers; Lewis Carroll and James Carroll both of Grahn, Kentucky. Grandchildren; Paul Dickison, III, Luke Carroll, Delaney Dickison, Debra Anne Dawson and Doug Leach. Also, six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. and Larry Glascock officiating.
Burial will follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery at Sharpsburg, Kentucky
Full military rites will be conducted.
Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg is after 5:00 pm Tuesday.
Pall bearers will be Luke Carroll, Paul Dickison, III, Doug Leach, Brian Dawson, Colton Dawson and Shannon Manley.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to St. Claire Hospice or the Flemingsburg Christian Church.
