Wayne D. Perkins, age 75 of Flemingsburg, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Born in Hillsboro, he was the son of the late Eldon and Olive Denton Perkins. He was a member of Hillsboro Methodist Church and a retired Foreign Language of Arts teacher at Fleming County High School. After more than thirty years of teaching, Wayne worked as a teller at Community Trust Bank for twenty years. Wayne was a STRONG Democrat and avid sports enthusiast especially when UK or the Cincinnati Reds were playing. He loved all sports and can be remembered from his high school teaching days working the ticket booths for many sporting events. Wayne was also a member of the Retired Teachers Association and enjoyed getting together with his former colleagues. He was a fantastic person and will be remembered as a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews, all of whom have very fond memories of Wayne. He is survived by: his sister, Dorothy (Kenneth) Jones of Flemingsburg; brother-in-law, J.E. Smith of Flemingsburg; nephews and nieces, Ricky (Mae) Jones of Flemingsburg, James (Kyna) Smith of Florida, Tammy (L.L.) Emmons of Flemingsburg, Craig (Daphanie) Smith of Flemingsburg, Tricia (Mark) Jones-Mullins of Pikeville, and Jeremy (Valerie) Jones of Morehead; 14 great-nieces & nephews; 14 great-great-nieces & nephews; and numerous cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Jean Perkins Smith. A graveside service and committal of ashes will be held 11:00 am Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Hillsboro Cemetery officiated by Rev. Ben Cain. No visitation is planned. Memorials are suggested to one's favorite charity. Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home is in care of funeral arrangements.
