Steven Douglas Rigdon, 38, of Hillsboro, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born August 11, 1978 in Morehead, he was a son of Doug and Patty Weaver Rigdon of Hillsboro.
Steven was a 1996 graduate of Fleming County High School and attended Morehead State University. Steven attended Sharkey Baptist Church and was a longtime journeyman carpenter and was currently employed as a supervisor at the Morehead Wal-Mart. Steven was a former vice president of the local Lexington Carpenters Union #1650. He loved to hunt and fish, especially fox hunt with his father.
One of his favorite things to do was to sit around a campfire, talking and enjoying the warmth of the fire, but also admiring the peacefulness while watching the flickering of the flames. Steven was very intelligent and a deep thinker, which gave him the love to write poetry. Most of all, Steven loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He will be greatly missed with each passing day by all who loved him.
Besides his parents, he is survived by: a sister, Delores Rigdon Tillery and her husband Terry of Hillsboro; a brother, Daniel Mitchell Rigdon and his wife Melissa of Cumming, GA; two step-children, Michael Terry and his wife Samantha of Danville, and Victoria Terry of Richmond; nieces and nephews, Rowan, Erin, Jessica, Aidan, and Patrick Tillery, and Colin, Logan, Hunter, and Mackenzie Rigdon; and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by: paternal grandparents, Frank and Ruby Rigdon; and maternal grandparents, Emmett and Irene Weaver.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, November 19, 2016 at the Sharkey Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Harley Sexton, Jr. and Pastor Elijah Sexton. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Friday, November 18th at Sharkey Baptist Church. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jarrod Fritz, Roland Rawlings, Johnny Rigdon, Dewayne Weaver, Michael Terry, and Daniel Rigdon. Arrangements are in care of the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home.
