Sammy Fawns

Sammy Fawns, 79, of Flemingsburg, passed away suddenly Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at his residence. Born September 11, 1935 in Hillsboro, he was the son of the late Hobart H. and Lydia Rebecca Rawlings Fawns.

Sammy was a retired custodian from Flemingsburg Elementary where he worked for 25 years, and loved his job. A member of New Life Church of Christ, he enjoyed being around people and went to the Senior Citizen's Center every day. Sammy was also an avid UK Basketball fan.

He is survived by: a sister, Sue McIntyre of Flemingsburg; three nieces, Linda Cooper of Poplar Plains, Kennetha (Randy) Vance of Mt. Sterling, and Sylvia (Thomy) Hawkins of Flemingsburg; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kelly (Jay) Weitekamp of Richmond, Kristen (Jason) Story of Richmond, Joshua (Jessica) Vance of Ft. Knox, Roxanne (Louie) Wright of Louisville, and Luke (Caroline) Hawkins of Lewisburg; and five great-great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: a sister, Evelyn Lee; two brothers, Hobert Fawns Jr., and James Claude Fawns; and a great-great-niece, Leah Kathryn Vance.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Bro. Darrin Fizer. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Sunday, December 21st at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joshua Vance, Luke Hawkins, Jason Story, Jay Weitekamp, Louie Wright, and Tommy Whisman. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Carlson, Dan Hilterbrand, Bill Dorsey, and Kenneth Hester.
