Rufus Wheeler, Sr.

Rufus Wheeler, Sr., age 74, of Fleming County, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Fleming County Hospital with his loving wife Kathy, and family by his side. Born November 7, 1940 in Johnson County, KY, he was a son of the late Jesse James Wheeler and Sylvia Taylor Wheeler.

A U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany, Rufus was a member of the Tilton United Methodist Church. Retired from U.S. Shoe, Rufus loved to go hunting and especially fishing and he also loved to go camping. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and he will be deeply missed.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Kathy Castle Wheeler; two sons, Rufus (Crystal) Wheeler, Jr. of Goddard, and Patrick Ernest Wheeler of Fleming County; a daughter, April Dawn Wheeler of Fleming County; his very special granddaughter, Angel Marie Wheeler; two brothers, Jay Lee Wheeler of Carlisle, and Troy Wheeler, of Johnson County; three sisters, Lilly Mae Clouse of Johnson County, Mary (Clyde) Dailey, and Princena Tackett, both of Flemingsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: an infant son, Ronald Dean Wheeler; two brothers, William and Amos Wheeler; two sisters, Phyllis Ann Ward, and Ethel Wheeler; and a half-brother, Buster Taylor.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Gail Skaggs. Visitation will be 6-9 pm Tuesday, April 28th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834. Pallbearers will be his sons, Rufus Wheeler, Jr, and Patrick Wheeler, as well as Derick Salyer, Jamie Salyer, Jason Duncan, and Ethan Duncan.
