Nila Ray Simons, age 86, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2018 at the University of Kentucky Hospital. She was born on March 12, 1932 in Fleming County, the daughter of the late Uhlan and Frankie Nell Hurst Evans. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Allen Simons, who passed away in 1985. She was a longtime resident of Flemingsburg, a teacher in the Fleming County school system until retirement, and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish. Survivors include her children: Sharon (Steve) Mitchell, Danny (Alicia) Simons, Mike (Laura) Simons, and Tammy (Morris) Jackson; her grandchildren, Eric (Jolena) Mitchell, Patrick (Stephanie) Mitchell, Justin (Kelly) Mitchell, Savanna Simons, Lauren Simons, Sean Michael Simons, Mary Elizabeth Simons, Joseph Paul Jackson, and Sydney Jackson; her great-grandchild, Rachelle Mitchell; her sister, Mary Dan (Jay) Day; her sisters-in-law, Nancye Evans, Evelyn Evans, and Joyce Evans;and her brother-in-law, Charles (Darlene) Simons. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by; three brothers, Donald Dean Evans, Clay Evans, and Kenny Evans; two sisters, Norma Jean Wagoner, and JoAnn Grannis; and brothers-in-law, Charles Wagoner, and Jimmy Grannis. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, September 7, 2018 at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church officiated by Rev. Eric Boelscher, with burial to follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will be 10am-12 pm Friday at Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home. A Rosary Prayers Service will be held at 12 noon at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Charles Simons, Eric Mitchell, Patrick Mitchell, Justin Mitchell, Joseph Paul Jackson, and Sean Michael Simons.
