Marcus Florence, Sr.

Marcus Edward Florence, Sr., 96, of Nepton, husband of 75 years to Beulah Arrasmith Florence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born on July 22, 1919 in Wallingford, the son of the late Charles Edward and Grace Ritchie Florence.

A U.S. Army WWII veteran, Marcus was a retired lineman for the RECC. He enjoyed his everyday life such as farming, riding his CASE tractor and his golf cart, and taking care of the animals he loved. Marcus was also a member of the local VFW. He was awarded the RECC Man of the Year for saving a fellow lineman from electrocution.

On December 14, 2015, Marcus and his loving wife celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary and received a congratulatory letter from the White House in recognition of their lifetime partnership in holy matrimony and dedication to each other.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by: five children, Marcus G. (Sue) Florence, Jr. of Elizaville, Mary Ann Osborne of Louisville, Larry E. (Linda) Florence of Nepton, Ray Allen (Mary) Florence of Elizaville, and Carol Louise Lowe of Nepton; grandchildren, Lisa Florence (Joe Trimboli) of Huntington, WV, Mark Florence of Elizaville, Michael (Mary Ann) Florence of Flemingsburg, Marsha Osborne of Louisville, William Osborne, Jr. of Louisville, Melissa (Eric) Hylander of Maysville, Jason Florence (Danielle Harmon) of Nepton, Chris (Lori) Florence of Flemingsburg, Carol Jean (Shawn) Jones of Salt Lick, and Eric (Lee) Evans of Carlsbad, CA; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, William Florence and Frances Gray.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday, January 29, 2016 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Keith Abrams. Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, January 28th at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Elizaville Cemetery with Military Rites performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834.

Active pallbearers will be Chris Florence, Jason Florence, Eric Hylander, Michael Florence, Mark Florence, and Elzie Price. Honorary pallbearers will be Amos Bramel, Ronnie Littleton, Jackie Reeves, Billy Grover Money, Richard Clark, and Louie Flannery.
