Larry Lee Mattox, 63, huband of Shirlene Mattox, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013. Born on Pea Ridge in Fleming County on December 18, 1949, Larry was the son of the late Robert Price Mattox and Ina Katherine Prater Mattox. A U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Larry was a former heavy equipment operator with Hanson Agrigates. Larry loved taking care of his family and he was always working. He loved to work, whether it be in the garden or logging, Larry always had to be doing something. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Larry also loved to hunt and fish.
Besides his wife, he is survived by: five children, Mike (Lynn) Workman of Crain Creek, Vicky (Jamie) Tackett of Fleming County, Jeff (Tonya) Mattox of Flemingsburg, Roni Lee Mattox of Owingsville, and Wesley Mattox of Flemingsburg; ten grandchildren, Aaron Workman, Tyler (Taylor Willoughby) Mattox, Robert Workman, Lewis Keller, Jacob Keller, Teri Mattox, Ethan Tackett, Hattie Mattox, Taylor Mattox, and Marisa Mattox; one great-grandson, Trenton Mattox; two sisters, Nancy (Charlie) Conn of Morehead, and Patty Brown of Morehead; a brother, Bobby (Linda) Mattox of Somerset, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Savey.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Denton-Workman Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Larry T. Ingram. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today (Wednesday, May 22nd) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Flemingsburg Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
