Joseph Rice

Joseph 'Joe' Rice, 86, of Flemingsburg, widower of Flora Mae Gulley Rice, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Lexington. Born in Fleming County on May 20 1930, he was a son of the late Oren and Ollie Craft Rice.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Joe was a retired Master Plumber and Master Electrician. He used to love to travel and upon his retirement, he enjoyed watching Westerns on television. Joe was also a member of the Flemingsburg Masonic Lodge #112 F&AM and the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5.

He is survived by: a daughter, Connie (Gary) Gibson of Poplar Plains; a son, Don (Barbara) Rice of Flemingsburg; grandchildren, Andrea Gibson (Aaron Withrow) of Flemingsburg, Garrett Bunton of Savanah, GA, Michele (Denny) Conley of Fleming County, Adam (Misty) Rice of Lexington, and Alison (Ryan) Kelly of Maysville; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Shaw of Florida; a special nephew, Alfred Chapman of Indiana; and several other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Ronnie and Mark Wagoner; and special friend, Amanda Woodson. Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by: two grandsons, Brian and Jason Gibson; a great-granddaughter, Kinslee Rice; special companion of many years, Betty Wagoner; and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Norman Wasson. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Monday, August 22nd at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fleming County Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors provided by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834.
