Jesse Hester

February 20, 1931 — March 19, 2017

Jesse W. Hester, 86, of Maysville, formerly of Fleming County, widower of Lucille Mineer Hester, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Hospice of Hope at Kenton Pointe. He was born February 20, 1931 on Hester Ridge in Fleming County, a son of the late Everett Austin and Edith McRoberts Hester.

A US Army veteran, Jesse served during the Korean Conflict and was called back to active duty with the US Army Reserves during the Bay of Pigs Cuban Missile Crisis. Jesse was retired from Browning Manufacturing in Maysville. Upon his retirement, Jesse used his skills as an electrician to do handyman work, and eventually, became a tax preparer for H&R Block for about the last 25 years of his life. He was a member of the Plumville Church of Christ where he served as Elder, Deacon, and treasurer. A Kentucky Colonel, Jesse also was very active in the Orangeburg Lions Club where he served as secretary and he also served on the board at Sugarloaf Christian Camp. Jesse was also an avid UK, FOX News, and NASCAR fan, but will be remembered most by his family for his adament loyalty to driving exclusively Ford vehicles.

He is survived by: two daughters, Kathy Hester Blevins of Mason County, and Karen H. (Tim) Moreland of Flemingsburg; two grandsons, Travis Moreland of Flemingsburg, and Samuel Blevins of Mason County; a sister, Joyce (John) Singleton of Fleming County; brothers-in-law, Jimmy (Ruby) Mineer, Johnny (Paula) Mineer, and Delmas Prater, all of Fleming County; sisters-in-law, Jean Hester of Fleming County, and Wilma Hester of Mason County; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Patricia Lynn Hester; brothers, Raymond Hester, Noel Hester, Keith Hester, and Clayton Hester; and sisters, Blanche Doyle, Lela Rankin, and Minnie Prater.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, March 23, 2017 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Bro. Scott Phillips. Visitation will be 5-8 pm Wednesday, March 22nd at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Martin Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834.

Active pallbearers will be Travis Moreland, Samuel Blevins, Tim Moreland, Danny Hester, Michael Mineer, Daniel Hester, Greg Rankin, and Marty Mastin. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Redmond, Kenny Sapp, Dennis Schuster, and Barry Million. Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Care Club, P.O. Box 189, Flemingsburg, KY 41041 or a charity of one's choice.
