Jean Mattox

December 1, 1953 — April 8, 2017

Jean Mattox, 63, of Flemingsburg, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. She was born on December 1, 1953 in Fleming County, the daughter of the late James Willard Hamm and the late Hattie Lee Miller.

Jean was a retired caregiver and had also worked at Jockey International many years ago, and was a member of the VFW #1834 Auxiliary. Jean lived her life for her children and grandchildren. Jean was definitely one of a kind and to say that they broke the mold when she was born was an understatement. Although she always said what was on her mind, and you always knew where you stood with her, Jean had a very loving heart and went out of her way for anyone who needed her. She lived life to its fullest and always had a good time no matter what the situation was. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Jean is survived by: two daughters, Vicky Mattox of Flemingsburg, and Roni Mattox of Morehead; five grandchildren, Lewis Keller (Tiffany Greene) of Bath County, Jacob Keller of Morehead, Ethan Tackett of Flemingsburg, and Hattie and Marisa Mattox, both of Morehead; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Greene, and Jaxon and Jagger Keller; three sisters, Patti Bryant of Flemingsburg, Ida Hinton of Flemingsburg, and Judy (Ronnie) Little of Fleming County; a brother, Joe (Barb) Wade of Fleming County; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by: her son, Wesley Mattox; a sister, Rosie Story; and a brother, Eddie Wade.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Jarrod R. Fritz and Ronnie Little. Visitation will be 10am-1pm Thursday the funeral home. Private burial of cremains will be in Goddard Cemetery. Condolences may be made at www.carpenterfritzvicefh.com
