James Lewis

James Wilbur "J.W." Lewis, 83 of Hillsboro, Kentucky passed away Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky after an extended illness.

He was born August 9, 1938, in Fleming County, Kentucky to the late Vergil and Nellie Grim Lewis.

J. W. was a former employee of Eastern, Kentucky Printing, Fleming Tractor Sales and had operated a small engine repair shop called Lewis Repair. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Wanda Lewis in 1978.  Two brothers, Vergil Lewis, Jr. and Hersha Lewis.

Survivors include his wife Louella Ratliff Lewis whom he married June 19, 1958. Three sons, James Harold (Lynn) Lewis of of Lithia Springs, Georgia, Billy Grim Lewis of Hillsboro and Charles Matthew Lewis of Hillsboro. One daughter, Barbie (John) Lightner of Douglasville, Georgia. Two brothers, Wayne Scott (Doni) Lewis of Hillsboro and Daniel Ray (Edie) Lewis of Flemingsburg. Two sisters, Sarah Frances Whitton of Morehead, Kentucky and Betty Lou (James) Hamilton of Lebanon, Kentucky. Five grandchildren, John Bradley (Jennifer) Lightner, Andrew Douglas (Emily) Lightner, Brandon Luke (Ruthie) Lightner, James Daniel (Jesse) Lewis and Destiny Shae (Josh) Russell. Eight great-grandchildren, Levi, Anna Grace, Claire, Maggie, Sam, Brooklyn, Tilly and Silas. Also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the Hillsboro Christian Church with Brother Gerald Saunders officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg is from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday.

Pall bearers will be Bradley Lightner, Andrew Lightner, Brandon Lightner, Daniel Lewis, Josh Russell and Levi Russell.
