Eugene 'Gene' Donovan, 63, formerly of Ewing in Fleming County, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015 at his home in Versailles. Born December 5, 1951 in Maysville, he was the son of Nancy Howe Donovan of Ewing and the late James E. Donovan. A member of the Ewing Christian Church, Gene was a 1969 graduate of Fleming County High School and a 1974 graduate of Morehead State University. Gene was retired from GRW Engineers as a CAD stereo Plotter. He was a passionate artist, an accomplished photographer, and avid gardener. Gene was a hiker and outdoors person and loved traveling, having traveled extensively. His favorite place to visit was the Bristlecone Pine Forest in California. Gene was a good man and loved spending time with his family. Besides his mother, he is survived by: his lifetime partner, Wayne Hume of Versailles; his siblings, Steve Donovan of Ewing, David Donovan of Ewing, Ed (Wendy) Donovan of Adelaide, Australia, Frannie (Gerald) Vice of Ewing, John Donovan of Ewing, and Jeff (Nancy) Donovan of Ewing; 23 nieces and nephews; and many close friends. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Ewing Christian Church officiated by Pastor Larry T. Ingram. Visitation will be 4-6 pm Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 163549, Columbus, OH 43216-3549. Arrangements are in the care of the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home in Flemingsburg.
