Dr. Samuel W. Gehring II, 85, longtime Flemingsburg physician passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Lexington Premier Nursing and Rehabilitation in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born April 16, 1937 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Samuel Watt Gehring and Alma Verna Harrison Gehring.
Dr. Gehring graduated from Male High School in Louisville, Kentucky and then graduated from the the University of Louisville and the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He was a United States Air Force Veteran and a member of the Flemingsburg United Methodist Church.
He loved being a doctor and was dedicated to helping his patients. He was also very appreciative of his many staff members throughout the years. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife whom he married June 28, 1958, Doris Ann True Gehring, one son; Christopher (Chris) Gehring who passed away February 15, 2022, and one brother; Roy Gehring.
Survivors include; one son Phillip Gehring and wife Maria of California, one grand-daughter; Emy Glascock and her husband Clinton, one sister; Janet Hollifield of Lousiville, two great-grandchildren; Oliver Back and Laney Glascock. Three sisters-In-law; Cindy Stearns, Vicki Compton, and Sally Dyer. Also Several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Services will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 20, 2023 at the Flemingsburg First United Methodist Church with Pastor Robbie Shrout officiating.
Burial will follow in the Elizaville Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the United States Air Force, the W. N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and the Franklin Sousley V.F.W. Post No. 1834.
Visitation will be held Sunday February 19, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. till 6:00 P.M. at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg.
Casket Bearers will be Phillip Gehring, Clinton Glascock, Tracy Glascock, Tommy Fern, Tom Fern Jr. and John Sims Jr.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Chris Gehring, Larry Glascock, Etta Hay, Joyce Fidler, Robin Walton, Carla Davidson, Amy-Adkins-Ferrell and Ceonia Leet.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Fleming County Hospital or the Flemingsburg First United Methodist Church.
All arrangments for Dr. Samuel W. Gehring II and family are under the care and direction of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home, 405 South Main Cross Street, Flemingsburg, Kentucky 41041.
