Dorothy Hopkins Faris, 96, of Flemingsburg, widow of John Garr Faris, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home. She was born on December 10, 1919 in Wilmington, NC, the daughter of the late Fleming Robinson and Erie Crain Hopkins.
A homemaker, Dorothy was a member of the Tilton United Methodist Church, the Johnson Homemakers, the Cancer Care Club, and she loved spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include: her children, Mary Kelley of San Diego, CA, John (Barbera) Faris of Ashland, Jerry (Dorothy) Faris of Nepton, Bettie (Carl) Adams of Foley, AL, Joan (Dave) Hughes of Carlisle, Randy (Barbara) Faris of Flemingsburg, and James (Dawnella) Faris of Flemingsburg; grandchildren, Mark and Kenton Kelley, June Faris Grubb, Greg Faris, Ashley Hughes Vice, Deandra Faris Howard, Lisha Faris Syck, and Allyson Faris; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Roberta Smith Faris.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Ron Spencer and Rev. Gail Skaggs. Visitation will be 5-9pm Wednesday, May 18th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Goddard Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Mark Kelley, Tee Grubb, Greg Faris, Chad Howard, Jason Syck, and Will Grubb. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenton D. Kelley, Charles Ward, Johnathan Faris, Aaron Burton, and Mike Pillis.
