Densel Holbrook

Densel A Holbrook, 94, of Wilmore, formerly of Flemingsburg, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at the Thomson Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore. He was born in Lawrence County on January 14, 1922, a son of the late Fual S. and Arminta Skaggs Holbrook.

A U.S. Army WWII veteran, Densel was wounded in Germany and was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal and Bronze Star Medal. He attended the Flemingsburg Christian Church and was a member of the Flemingsburg VFW Post #1834 and American Legion Post #5. Densel was a retired grocery store owner, having owned grocery stores in Hillsboro, Maysville, and in Florida. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, going to the dog races and he loved attending the Kentucky Derby.

Survivors include: his son, Michael (Karen) Holbrook of West Palm Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Michelle (Luis) Baretto, Phillip Holbrook, and Christine Hanbury, all of West Palm Beach, FL; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Lucas, Nicholas, Robert, Matthew, and Terissa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by: his first wife, Thelma Zimmerman Holbrook; second wife, Elaine B. Holbrook; and siblings, Tyde Holbrook, Eula Johnson, Beaulah Hall, Gusta Kessing, Mabel Vetter, Harold Holbrook, Josephine Thomas, Dr. Julian Holbrook, and Chester Holbrook.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Norman Wasson. Visitation will be 11am-2pm Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fleming County Cemetery with graveside Funeral Military Honors performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project, Att: Advanced Guard, P.O.
