Dennis Garey

Dennis R. Garey, 79, of Flemingsburg and formerly of Lexington, husband of Laura Rawlings Garey, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Meadowview Regional Hospital in Maysville.

Born May 17, 1937 in Hilltop, he was a son of the late John C. and Margaret Timmons Garey. A U.S. Air Force veteran, Dennis was retired from IBM in Lexington, a member of Broadway Christian Church in Lexington, and he attended the Tilton Christian Church in Fleming County.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: two daughters, Sue (Martin) Padgett of Jeffersonville, IN, and Leslie Denise (Brent) Justice of Cookville, TN; grandchildren, Justin Lee Padgett, Cassidy Hope Padgett, Kelly Ryan Padgett, and Madelyn Brook Justice; a brother, John Roger (Theresa) Garey of Flemingsburg; and two brothers-in-law, Pete (Nancy) Rawlings, and Bill (JoAnn) Rawlings, both of Flemingsburg. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Thomas Garey.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, June 13, 2016, at the Fleming County Cemetery officiated by Bro. Jim Wilson and Military Funeral Honors performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834. No visitation is planned. Pallbearers will be Justin Padgett, Kelly Padgett, Cassidy Padgett, Madelyn Justice, Bill Rawlings, and Will Padgett. Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home is caring for funeral arrangements.
