Darrell Rankin

November 15, 1947 — June 20, 2014

Darrell Lee Rankin, 66, of Old Town, FL, formerly of Flemingsburg, husband of Phyllis Diskey Rankin, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 20, 2014 at his residence in Old Town, FL. Born November 15, 1947 in Mason County, he was the son of Tommy Rankin of Flemingsburg and the late Earl Addison Rankin.

Darrell was the owner and operator of the Original Suwannee River Campground in Old Town, FL. A NASCAR fan and car enthusiast in general, Darrell loved working on cars and used to enjoy drag racing. He also was a Harley-Davidson fan and loved riding motorcycles. Darrell grew up farming in Fleming County and had a genuine love for being around people, and just like every other true Kentuckian, he loved UK basketball. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many friends.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by: his daughter, Michelle (Anthony) Marshall; a sister, Penny Rankin; a granddaughter, Taylor Marshall; five step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandson; step-daughter, Stacie (Tony) Courtney; step-son, Anthony Diskey; two nieces; and two nephews. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Bro. Parkey Thompson and the Rev. Gail Skaggs. Visitation will be 6-9 PM Friday, June 27th at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fleming County Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Denny Ray Vice, Bobby Cropper, David Ramey, Johnny Ball, Billy Joe Denton, and Ricky Blakeman.
