Charles Brown

Charles A 'Charlie' Brown, 80, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky. He was born on February 15, 1935, in Hilltop, Fleming Co., Ky., to the late Geneva Faris and Albert Ray Brown. Charlie was retired as superintendent of Fleming Co. Schools, a position he held for 25 years. He was a graduate of Fleming Co. High School and Morehead State University, where he received a Masters Degree in Education. An educator for 33 years, he also served the school system as a classroom science teacher and assistant principal. Besides his education career, Charlie had many interests. He was a businessman involved in real estate and farming, and was a partner in several businesses in Fleming and Mason counties.

Charlie was a member of the Elizaville Christian Church, where he served as Sunday School teacher, deacon, and elder, and currently held Elder Emeritus status.

A sports enthusiast, Charlie played basketball at FCHS and Centre College. He was one of the Fleming County Panthers' most loyal fans, never missing a home basketball game and rarely missing away games. He was also a staunch supporter of the Panthers' football and baseball teams, and enjoyed watching UK basketball. Known as 'Pawsy' to his grandchildren and their friends, he enjoyed following them in their many activities.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Wallingford Brown; a son, Charles R. 'Chuck' (Jan) Brown; daughters, Karen (Billy Joe) Kirby, and Melissa (Mike) James, all of Flemingsburg. Six grandchildren; Cyle (Kevin) Swartz, Kelly (Jay) Ridings, Blake Brown, Chad (Megan) Kirby, Alex James, and Aaron James: and four great-grandchildren: Hadlee Hazelrigg, Hannah Swartz, Maddox Ridings, and Makenzie Kirby,

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday, January 25, 2016 at the Elizaville Christian Church officiated by Pastor James Watkins, Rev. Richard Anderson, and Bro. George Sloan. Burial will follow in the Elizaville Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-9 pm Sunday, January 24th at Elizaville Christian Church.

Pall bearers will be Blake Brown, Chad Kirby, Aaron James, Kevin Swartz, Jay Ridings, Bill Brown, Steve Brown, and W. T. Brown. Honorary pall bearers will be Bill Kachler, Mark Kachler, Todd Walton, Meredith Story, Harold Porter, Jerry Neal, Buddy Cropper, Ronnie Fern, Jeff Vice, Gilby Crawford, Paul Ford, and Jason Teegarden.
