Bill McFarland

Bill McFarland, age 70, of Ewing, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2017 after an extended illness. Born in Ewing on August 3, 1946, he was the son of the late Clyde and Aleta Maxey McFarland.

A U.S. Army Vietnam veteran, Bill was also a member of the Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834 and the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5, from where he also used to work, as well as an active team member with the Military Funeral Honor Guard. Bill was a lifelong farmer and also had worked at the U.S. Shoe Factory. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and westerns.

He is survived by: special cousins, Hilda Smalley of Fleming County, Michelle Denton and her son Rylan Smalley of Flemingsburg; numerous other cousins; close friends, Bill Watkins and Art Mers; and special neighbors, Buddy and Lisa Gray. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Carolyn Walker, Wilma Brown, Wanda McFarland, and Mary Margaret McFarland.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Greg Tucker. Visitation will be 10am-1pm Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Elizaville Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors performed by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post #5 and the Franklin Sousley VFW Post #1834. Pallbearers will be Mike Smalley, James Smalley, Steve McFarland, Allen McFarland, Jackie Mitchell, and Bill Watkins. Honorary pallbearer will be Art Mers.
