Barbara Hyatt

June 6, 1942 — June 25, 2014

Barbara Lee Hyatt, 72, of Flemingsburg, KY and formerly of Columbia, TN, loving wife for 40 years to Elmo Wilson Hyatt, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg after complications from a stroke. Born June 6, 1942 in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of the late Ray and Lena Aker Garrett.

Barbara was a past resident of Hillsboro, OH and called Columbia, TN home for the past 25 years. Her and Mo moved to Flemingsburg just recently to be near family during her illness. Barbara was a care-giver, always thinking of others before herself. She was a dedicated nurse for 20 years before retiring. She had a passion for caring for the elderly and this is where she focused her service as a nurse. Barbara loved greeting cards; not just sending them, but receiving them as well. She has kept drawers of cards from everyone throughout her lifetime. She loved NASCAR Racing, especially Dale Earnhardt, and the Tennessee Volunteers. Barb was a track runner in high school and participated on the school council and class play. Barb never gave up and never wanted anyone to see her pain. She was a fighter until the end and she was a true believer in God and knew the Lord.

Besides her husband, she is survived: two daughters, Monica (Pat) Gallenstein-Stahl of Lexington, KY and Anna Gallenstein of Maysville, KY; a son, Jeffrey (Melony) Gallenstein of Winchester, KY; step-children, Ronnie (Teri) Hyatt of Evergreen, CO, and Stephanie (Charles) Mains of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Juanita Garrett-Herbert; her very dear and close in-laws, Jewett (Paula) Hyatt, and Phyllis (Harold 'Pete') Peters; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and close friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by: brothers, Harold and Lloyd Garrett; a niece, Debbie Herbert Benton; and in-laws, Otto and Evadna Hyatt.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Carpenter-Fritz & Vice Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Norman Wasson.
